Text: 1 Samuel 24:1-15
Topic(s): Sufficiency of Scripture, Peer Pressure
Questions to ask in children’s church:
- Who created the world, and who made you?
- In Genesis 1, we see that God created the world.
- God created people in His image. Every child is created in the likeness of God.
- Who knows more about what God made, God or people?
- God does.
- God can tell us more about this world and about our lives than people.
- Should we do something simply because everyone else is doing it or because people want us to do it?
- No. People do not know as much about this world as God does. God tells us about Himself, His world, and ourselves in His Bible. So, we trust the Bible more than we trust people.
Family worship after Sunday’s sermon:
- Read 1 Samuel 24:1-15 again.
- Why didn’t David follow the advice of his friends?
- Why do you think it is important to recognize God’s providence and respect the way He is working together all things?
- Are you more like Saul, who tries to work everything out for himself and believes he is correct; Or, are you more like David, who seeks first God’s kingdom and righteousness and trusts God to work things out according to His will?
Note from the pastor to families:
There are many reasons we choose to do the things we do and live the way we live. We understand that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). God is king, and His approval is the only approval that matters. He has not only provided His instruction, but also His Gospel in the words of Scripture. Even though we have all failed to win God’s approval, He offers it as a gift through Jesus Christ. When we come to follow Jesus, we desire to follow God’s word more closely. When we participate with the church, go to work, spend time at home, or go out, we do so for Christ’s pleasure and not the pleasure of others. What a freeing and comforting way to live!
